Newly Discovered Photos !

We are always on the lookout for good photos of the King Mango Strut. For the 2005 parade, photographers from all over the planet descended on Coconut Grove to capture the special moments from their own unique perspectives. Photographer Tomas Loewy-Lansky has posted his vision of the Strut online for all to see. Check it out at:

The 24th Annual King Mango Strut

King Mango and his merry band of Mangoheads took over the streets of Coconut Grove for the 24th time on Saturday, December 31 st, 2005. It was a major Category 5 Strut.

Grand Marshal Jim Defede (former Miami Herald columnist and Miami New Times writer) watched this past year’s headlines come to life. To make sure everyone got the point, he ripped headlines from old newspapers.

While there have been controversies with other parades across the nation, the King Mango Strut continues to be an equal opportunity offender. There was something to offend everyone.

Some of the highlights included developers and animals fighting over the Urban Development Line, Barbara Bush promoting the AstroDome as affordable housing, dancers doing the the No Electric Slide, the latest hits from the Post Andrew Sisters (featuring Big Daddy Blowhard), and free rides on the Bi-Polar Express.

And if that weren’t enough for a sick mind… avian flu, pythons, Katrina, Rita, Wilma, blue tarps, looters, penguins, fingers, condo flippers, diploma mills, Terri Schiavo, and Michael Jackson.

And as always - the usual suspects... The Hare Krishnas, The Marching Freds, Progressive Marching Funeral Band, Coconut Grove’s Token Politician, Coconut Grove Jugglers Exchange, The Running of the Bullshitters, The Red Hat Society, the Little Miss Mangoes and the former Miss Mangoes (Miss Judged, Miss Demeanor, Miss Aligned, Miss Appropriate, etc...)
